Scanning QR codes is a child’s play these days. All you need is the camera app of your iPhone. However, this has not always been the case: if you wanted to scan QR codes on your iPhone, a short time ago you had to go to the App Store and look for a suitable application. From the apps offered there, you first had to choose one, install it and open it so that you can then read a QR code with it. In the following article, we get to know about How to scan a QR code on iPhone? Don’t skip the article from anywhere and read it carefully.

Unfortunately, it was not possible to decipher or decode the codes without an external application. Fortunately, those days are over. If you want to scan one or more QR codes these days, all you need is an application that is already on your iOS device: the camera. With the help of the camera app, it is possible in just a few steps to read out the small pixelated squares – called “QR Codes” or “Quick Response Codes” – and open the corresponding website,

Scan QR codes on the iOS device – that’s what you have to do

In the following, we will show you how you can use the function: First open the camera app on your iPhone 8, X, or XR. Now hold your phone in front of the QR code that you want to scan by holding the main camera five to ten centimeters directly in front of the code. In most cases, this is an external website. Sometimes, however, applications on your device or in the App Store can also be the target of the link. In individual cases, it can also be a specific function in the menu of your iPhone. Regardless of what the QR code is linked to – to get there, simply tap the message at the top of the screen. You will then automatically exit the camera app and switch to the target of the link.

Problem with scanning QR Codes? That may be the reason

As a rule, scanning QR codes is not very difficult. All you have to do is open the camera application and hold your device in front of the corresponding code. If this does not work, there can be different reasons. In principle, however, the problem can be resolved quickly. In the following, we describe the three most common causes of complications when scanning QR codes and what you can do about them.

1. The camera lens is dirty

It may sound banal at first, but it is not uncommon for a dirty camera to prevent you from reading a QR code properly to scan a QR code on iPhone. If a code cannot be deciphered immediately, you should therefore first check whether the main camera of your iPhone is contaminated with dirt or dust. This is completely normal and happens especially if you regularly keep your phone in your pocket.

In this way, small particles can spread on the surface of the camera glass. If this is the case or if the lens of your device is dirty, use a small microfiber cloth at hand and use it to carefully clean the camera. A corresponding cloth is already available on the Internet for less than five euros. In any case, make sure that you use a microfiber cloth. Otherwise, it may scratch the camera. Once you have cleaned the lens with the cloth, you should be able to scan the code again without any problems.

2. Distance between device and QR code too short / far

If your QR code cannot read properly even after cleaning the camera lens, this may due to the distance between the camera and the code. Make sure that you keep a distance of about five to ten centimeters.

If the camera to close to the code, it cannot focus on it sufficiently and the code to read remains out of focus for the camera lens. If, on the other hand, you hold your iPhone too far away from the code, the camera may have difficulties distinguishing the code from all other objects in the image or in finding it.

3. The camera does not focus correctly on the QR code

If you find that you are having difficulty scanning QR codes, this may also be due to an incorrectly set focus to scan a QR code on iPhone. Your camera app or the camera of your iPhone has built-in autofocus. This means: If you want to photograph or film a certain subject with your device, your camera automatically focuses on the area in the picture that should (probably) be in the center of the picture.

However, this does not always succeed without problems. Either your iPhone is focusing on the wrong area or there are other objects in the picture that make it difficult for the camera to focus on the point in the picture you want. Fortunately, you can reset the focus. All you have to do is tap with your finger on the spot in the image (in this case the QR code) that you want to be sharp. Once you have done this, you should be able to scan the QR code (s) without any impairment.
