Bunching Onions

Bunching onions are immature onions and can be preserved in the refrigerator. It has a low amount of pyruvic acid components, so it does not give us tears. Bunching onion can be cooked and used freshly as in salads.

Pungent Onions

Pungent onions have many pyruvic components so that they can be stored for some days without a refrigerator. It can give us tears. People like to use it in soaps and boiling.

How to Store Onions

 Onion can be stored for 14 to 15 days by some different processes, which we discuss today. So get ready to store your onions.

1. Peeled

Once you peel the onions, they can save in the refrigerator to avoid bacteria.

Rinse the onion under running water and let it dry.

Peel the onions and keep them in an airtight container.

Place this container in the refrigerator under four °C or below.

This onion ca store for 14 to 15 days.

2. Sliced Cut and diced

After washing and drying, cut the onions into small pieces with a sharp knife.

Wrap these sliced onions in a plastic resealable bag.

Please keep them in the freezer for up to 4 to 5 months and use them in cooked foods like soup.

You can also buy the slice and diced onion from the market and use them before their expiry date

3. Cooked to Store Onions

Cooked onions can store in the fridge or freezer.

Wrap the onions tightly in a plastic bag or place them in a container after a few minutes of cooking.

You can keep it in the refrigerator for up to 15 days and keep it in the refrigerator for 4 to 5 months.

4. Pickles to Store Onions

Pickled onions are the best way to store them. In this process, the onion place in a liquid that prevents the bacteria which rot the vegetables.

After peeling and slicing the onion, please place them in a glass jar filled with vinegar. Add some salt and pepper according to your taste. Through this process, you can store the onions for up to six months.

5. Dehydration

 After washing, drying, and peeling sliced the onions into small cubes with a sharp knife.

Place these sliced onions in a dehydrator for nine hours. You can also use a food drier.

After dehydration, like other vegetables, it becomes crunchy and crispy. 

Store them in a container and use them whenever you want.
