You know those really aesthetically pleasing cooking videos you see all the time while scrolling through Facebook? Especially the ones by BuzzFeed’s Tasty. It’s like every single dish they make can be made so easily without making a giant mess, and well, they’re coming out with their very own Tasty One Top electric stove. I can’t guarantee we’ll all be able to cook with the organized ease the videos show, but this electric stove is definitely going to help.
Going with Tasty’s keen sense of aesthetics, the electric stove is shaped like a rounded pentagon with a light blue or black edge for sole reason of looking pretty on photos and videos. Yes, it’s going to be a little hard to store properly in a cupboard, but it’s going to look good on camera, isn’t that more important? To make things easy to follow and use for people who aren’t so great at cooking, there are only a grand total of 3 buttons: power, raising temperature, lowering temperature. And then there’s this row of lights that tell you how hot it is, and give other relevant signals. At this point, it sounds pretty easy to use, but there are other devices out there that are more convenient, like the Bruno and the Recolté ones from Japan. What’s so good about this, BuzzFeed?
BuzzFeed’s answer is the photo above, and one more thing. In a bit, BuzzFeed will be coming out with an accompanying app with more than 1,700+ Tasty videos on it. But what is so special about this app is that you can sync the One Top up with most of the videos, so you can really cook step by step with this thing. The electric stove will automatically adjust its temperature settings and even remind you when to move on to the next step. For beginners who don’t know how long certain foods take to cook, this is a nice thing to have. But sad news for Android users, they are currently only developing the iOS version, so you’re going to have to wait a bit. Of course, for those of us who are pretty decent cooks and just want an electric stove that looks nice and is easy to use, One Top also offers a manual mode.
Because of how precise you can get the temperature to be, this electric stove will allow you to cook a variety of things from sous vide to slow cook to deep fry. I don’t think this can truly replace a stove top in a proper kitchen, but if you’re living alone in a small apartment or even a college dorm, this might be your thing. As I said, there are other brands and devices out there that are potentially better because they come with the cooking pot in one set, but the Bluetooth sync with the app is truly something not every brand can offer. We wrote about the Heston Cue a while back, and it is another option you can take.
But to be honest with you, Tasty’s One Top is possibly one of the cheapest options out there considering all the functions it has when connected to the app. It’s only priced at USD149, shipping in November. So for the college peeps out there, this is a pretty decent option to look into besides the trusted Foreman Griller.
