After all we’ve been waiting for with leaks and teasers, the new phones are finally announced to hit the market next month. Apple has always been one of the leading companies in the world to utilize and develop technologies that bring us closer and closer to the technological future we’ve always imagined and dreamed of. And the creation of the iPhone is an important milestone in the development of handheld multi-taking devices that are so much more than just a phone. To celebrate the 10th anniversary of this wonderful creation, Apple is not just releasing the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, they’re also releasing a 3rd phone packed with all sorts of surprises: the iPhone X. We’re not just talking about sleek packaging and smooth interfaces that Apple is known for, the sheer groundbreaking technological combinations in it is going to blow you away, whether you’re a long-time iPhone fan or not.

In this article, we will be focusing on the iPhone X and not the iPhone 8 line, because this phone is going to be as scarily awesome as the first iPhone that came out in terms of new technology. We’re looking at a renovation and redesign of all the iPhones Apple has come out with, all rolled into one neat little package of the iPhone X. The reason why we say redesign is because it doesn’t really look like an iPhone. They’ve scrapped the home button and made the 1125×2436 OLED screen as big as the whole front of the phone, except for this strip on the top for all the needed sensors and cameras; there’s barely even any room between the sides and the screen. This new screen is going to make all the colors much more vivid but comfortable to look at with Apple’s TrueTone white-balance technology. The back is made of glass this time with a fingerprint minimizing finish which blends seamlessly into the stainless steel sides of the device, making for an elegant and comfortable hold. Because the home button is gone now, Apple has made a new side button, not the replace the home and ‘on’ button, but to be used to call Siri (long hold), Apple Pay (double click), and print screen (volume up button and side button) conveniently.

Because of all the new functions and technologies woven into the iPhone X, they’ve upgraded the processor to the A11 Bionic with 3GB of RAM with an extended battery life of 2 more hours on the iPhone 7 (I remember this lasting around 2 days of light usage). The method of charging is also changing this time round. Instead of the traditional plug into the wall socket way, Apple is going to go with the Qi standard of inductive pads, and will be releasing their AirPower charging pad that’s big enough to charge your iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods at the same time.

And how can we forget the most important aspect of the iPhone? The camera system is an getting a massive upgrade this time round with new features and improved refinement of old ones. The rear cameras are now dual 12 megapixel ones, with f/1.8 and f/2.4 apertures and quad-LED True Tone Flash, which also has optical image stabilization for clearer and sharper photos. The slow motion capture that was only available 1080p in the iPhone 7 can now be shot in 4K clarity, because they’ve finally gotten over the technological hurdles. On top of this, you can now manually set what kind of light you want for your photos with the Portrait Lighting mode, allowing you to choose from natural lighting to full on spot light. Perfect for those selfie shots we all love. Augmented Reality (AR) technology is also made possible with the new cameras, so game app developers will be latching onto this. Based on all the videos I’ve watched, it really looks like a mirror into another world with how clear the images are on the new screen.

Now onto the main dish of this article, the Face ID security feature which is also the most crucial and important one in the new phone that utilizes its front camera. It’s essentially a new form of the fingerprint sensor in terms of security measures, so instead of putting your finger on the sensor, you use your face. This can be convenient for when you use Apple Pay or even logging into certain apps that need higher levels of security. Because the initial setup process would have the whole phone remember your whole face from various angles, the company is confident that any masks and photos will not be sufficient in breaking it. So rest assured.

This face recognition technology is made using the TrueDepth array where the sensors project infrared dots onto your face to capture and analyze your face data, so apart from being an awesome security measure, it is also used to for other features. One of them is Animoji, where your facial expressions will be mimicked by the emojis in iMessage. I won’t be putting any images up because I don’t like them, but it will prove to be interesting watching your favorite poop emoji take on various expressions besides its set one before.
