Foldable bikes have been around for years now. However, as most who own one will know, it can only fold down so much. Unless you want to settle for tiny wheels, a folded bike will still be at least the size of an average bike wheel. That makes taking a foldable bike onto crowded trains and buses difficult. Revolve is here to change the game of foldable vehicles. It is a foldable wheel that makes your commute and travels even easier.
How Revolve Works
Replacing traditional wheel frames with aluminium spokes, Revolve has turned an unyielding circle into a portable tool. When unfolded, the wheel measures 665mm in diameter, which is the universal wheel size. During collapse, the spokes fold in towards the hub. This decreases the diameter of the wheel by around 60% to just 226mm in diameter. That is a perfectly compact size to put in backpacks and carry-on luggage. Besides, the wheel is fitted with a universal hub, so it should fit most bikes and wheelchairs. With a turn of the magnetic key, you can easily lock or unlock the wheel. The outer ring of the wheel is made of a tough, airless material. As such, you get a smooth ride all the time without having to carry a pump with you.
For Everything on Wheels
A foldable wheel could be the key to truly portable bikes. When riders no longer have to choose between size and ease of cycling, more might opt for a green way to commute. It could also make life easier for those who use wheelchairs. When wheels can be folded up, a wheelchair can fit into a cab’s trunk with no problem. In short, foldable wheels can improve mobility and accessibility for just about everyone.
According to the inventor and designer Andrea Mocellin, the wheel is ready for production. At the moment, they are showing the product around to look for investors. The patent for this product is also pending. Meanwhile, you can find out more about it on their official website.
