Whenever we go hiking or camping, there’s a chance that it’ll get dark suddenly or you plan to stay the night. These areas are usually pretty remote, so there’s not much chance for any lamp posts for light. Flashlights are great and all, but let me introduce a new design to give your hiking or camping trip a new shine. Japan-based manufacturer Snow Peak created the Mini Hozuki Lantern. It’s a compact, bright, and versatile LED camping light with a modern and convenient design for campers.
What’s the Mini Hozuki Lantern?
For those who are not familiar with Japanese, Hozuki is a type of plant. I’m personally a great fan of its symbolism, because it has connotations of life within death. It’s bright orange fruit is encased by its leaves. So as the leaves wither, leaving behind its ‘skeleton’, it looks like a lantern. Incidentally, this is where the Chinese got the idea for the original chinese lanterns. The more you know~
This Mini Hozuki Lantern takes inspiration from this and adds a modern twist. Its silicone ‘leaves’ act as a lamp shade to diffuse a cozy warm light for your tent. It also has a magnetic loop so you can easily hang the lantern in your tent or on your bag. Because of its small size, it doesn’t take up much space. You can carry it around easily or bring it indoors with you as a reading light.
How It Works
There are a few light modes pre-set on the Mini Hozuki Lantern. By pressing the LED light, you can change between modes and dim its brightness. A long press turns it on and off, and a quick double press gets you into flickering mode. You can send signals to other hikers or campers in the dark without worrying about crashing the batteries. Since it’s designed for hiking and camping, it uses 3 AAA batteries instead of a USB rechargeable one. If you keep it on high, you can get 40 hours. But on strobe, it can last for 80 hours, which is pretty decent.
There are 3 colors you can choose from: Snow (white), Bark (brown), and Moss (green). For those who are interested, you can head over to their website. At USD43, you can get your very own mini attachable light. If you’re not using it for hiking or camping, it’s still great as a reading lamp or a gift.
